It's the 535 members of the United States Congress. The same group of Idiots that crank out hundreds of new laws each year designed to keep the rest of us in line.

Current Reading Assignments
Well its been a while since I last posted.... I know, I know... I promised more blogs but work in town has taken up a lot of my time and I am really just getting into the swing of things and figuring out what me life is going to be about these next 1-2 years.
With that said I have been reading as of a couple weeks ago several books, because I can't just read one book. Taking Back the Vote by Jane Eisner, The Fair Tax Book by Neal Boortz, Invisible Citizens by Hanesh Sitaraman & Previn Warren. I have finished Invisible Citizens and Taking back the Vote, very good well written books about Youth politics and why "we" are politically apathetic to the whole process. Very good reads. The Fair Tax Book however, has been a little harder to read and I have had to put it down a couple of times because I fall asleep or just want to throw it across the room, but I think that is what the writer intended to do, but oh well.
Back to the Youth situation, because I understand that one slightly a little better than I do the American Tax system... Go Figure! Both books are well written and take into account a lot of different factors. One of the key factors I think and the both books agree with me, more so Invisible Citizens, is that my generation lost Trust in the the Ability for the American political system to take care of its people and do the right things for the people. Instead what we have these days is, even during now during the Democratic control of the House and Senate, a group of people that either see the future problems and will still do nothing or they are totally ignorant of it all as the previous two congresses were. Look I like the fact that the Dems took the back the First portion of the constitution, making, no restoring, congress back to its full power of administration over the affairs of the people. All we had before was a lap dog to Bush/Cheney, really just Cheney. And if I got his name spelled wrong who cares, he can't shoot a gun either.
The other issue that most people my age have is that we are too busy trying to start our lives, aka find a job and start a family, to begin to even think about politics. Even though it affects us everyday more so than we seem to think. With outsourcing and other economic factors the way they are it is down right cut throat out there. I should know.
The other issue that "we" as a group/demographic has is that "we", not all of us, think that community service/outreach programs are better ways of spending our time. Rather than going to the polls in November or writing a letter to our elected officials with concern about a certain environmental/health/energy related issue we are having in our area, we think its far better to go out and paint the same wall at the community center that we have painted every year for the last 6 years since that coal plant down the road went in. When we should be doing that and sending letters to our elected officials and getting engaged not only socially but politically. Not only making and affecting change locally but trying to do it nationally and globally. We have all these resources at our fingertips-Facebook, Myspace, Blogger, YouTube, etc, etc. That we only use it to say Hey to a long lost friend and post photos of last nights crazy party and the video of Tim getting wrapped to a tree and left there till morning is well frightening to say the least. I am guilty of this and so are a lot of us.
Instead of being apathetic we need to be PROACTIVE about how we engage politicians, news media, and our siblings. We are inheriting a lot of bad bills and broken dreams that I truely do not think are important and really think that we as a group should not have to bear, just because some old people decided that it would be a good idea to increase the federal deficit yet again or a bad image problem from a war that was started with no direct action being taken by the nation invaded, Really tell me what the FRAK did Iraq/Saddam do? If we are going off the criterion of how we invaded Iraq would that mean we are going to North Korea next? Tell me I want to know now.
In other news I just finished less than 8 hours ago a book my father has wanted me to read for a long time. The Other Log of Phileas Fogg by Philip Jose Farmer. Gooooooooood book, read Verne's account first and then read Farmer's. Great read couldn't put it down at all.
Now its off to read Lou Dobbs' War on the Middle Class. And no I still have not finished The Fair Tax Book, I do not know when I will even pick the book back up. I just can not keep from falling asleep, which means I know what I am reading when I can not go to sleep at 3 A.M.
Peace to all

Corporate Social Irresponsibility
So, I was in Hastings the other night cruising and puruising and I picked up a nice little magazine while I was there. Democracy Journal, I have not had much time to do any research on what side of the line these guys publish or what not, but it really does not matter. The first article I read was rather academic but it got me thinking about Corporate control of government & the public itself.
Corporate Social Irresponsibility is about just what the title implies. The title is short sweet and to point, however the article is not but it goes over quite a lot of material. Particularly CSR- Corporate Social Responisbility, its origins and what it has mutated into; SRI - Socially Responsible Investing, which is a term use to describe what corporations do socially in given areas. A good portion of the article were easy to follow examples of current and not so current events that any read could follow.
The best part of this entire article are the last two subsections in which it gives an analysis on strategic vs. non strategic CSR and a new perspective on CSR and what it should do. You could say the last two sections are gut checks and paradaigms to look at.
Read it here: Corporate Social Irresponsibility
Also the magazine is only $7.00 and I am thinking about a subscription.

Here's to the New Year!!
Alright,
It has been a longtime since I last posted, well long would not be the right word. Basically I could say I did the same thing a certain TX-4th district Congressional Candidate has been doing, absolutely nothing!!! LOL Sorry Glen.
For all those that want to know what is going on in this writers world right now, here is the info.
Got a job at Lowe's Home Improvement Center, everything else is on hold for at least a 6 months to a year if not longer. I was told by a good friend that the Lowe's job was an opportunity from heaven for a young male my age with no family to speak of, lest we forget mom, dad, and baby brother.
So now that I have settled back down into a new job and have time to do what I love to do, which is surf the net and find articles to write about here we go.

If it Happens I will Serve, but I don't Like it
As the title suggests. I will do what my country asks of me but I won't like it.
Rep Charles Rangel may be currect, that if we want to finish Iraq, Fight Iran & Korea then yes we will need a draft. I have to ask the big question. WHY do we have to fight Iran and Korea? What the hell did they do, other than Anti-American sentament & Nuclear Proliferation. I agree that they shouldn't have the power, but why should we for that matter?
I don't like a draft but oh well if it happens I will serve.
Check out this article from CNN.

Taser not so Safe?
Read this article from In These Times titled: Stunning Revelations
It's a rather good article concerning the use of Taser non-lethal devices in varied situations. I have to agree that the officers did what they needed to do but I think we need to stop marketing a product that could kill people in any situation or physical condition. And actually give it a title close to semi-lethal or something of that nature. I really don't know. If someone could enlighten me that would be great or find an article that says the other side, something to do with officer's lifes saved.

District of Columbia
This is actually something I think we as a country have not looked into, its important. Yes I know some would say that statehood for DC isnt an important issue but this would be one of the spears in the Democrats war chest that could be brought out and say...We did this for THE PEOPLE!
Have a look at this article: Make Democrats Earn Black Votes

Stem Cells
2 out of 3 voters favor stem cell research. This is a sad statistic, which would tell you that we are living in a time when our government is not or does not hold the same values as we do. I should say that President Bush doesn’t, but what can you expect from someone who has not driven a car or bought groceries in the last well, which knows how many years.
The idea that, by vetoing the bill you save embryos from being destroyed. There is one little problem with this concept, THOSE EMBROYS WERE MARKED TO BE DESTROYED. I am sorry but some presidents are idiots or rather the people that help them are.
On July 8th in a CNN.com article Bush was sited for wanting to urge more science research funding:
The proposal is part of Bush's initiative to boost U.S. competitiveness in the global marketplace through innovation. He also wants to train thousands of new science and math teachers and extend a popular tax credit businesses can receive for investing in research and development. The total price tag over 10 years would be $136 billion.
All right, so which kind of scientific research do you want to fund here. I mean if we want to stay on top of EVERYONE ELSE IN THE WORLD then we need to be conducting research into stem cells you not so smart president.
But my bad I guess all we are good at is selling out our children.
Stem cell research could help not only certain major ailments but also restore sight, damaged nervous systems, and spinal injuries.
The thing about stem cells is that they can turn into any of 220 different types of cells, which means they can adapt and fix problems.
How would that help us? I don’t know, just think grandma might be able to remember her grandchildren’s faces, the soldier that is in the hospital from Iraq with a spinal injury could walk again, and people that lose their sight in a workplace accident could see again.
WOW and you do not want to fund that project because you want to save embryos from being destroyed that were already going to be destroyed. GREAT LOGIC.
